Health Care During Change of Seasons
There are people who live with a cold or ache from fatigue when the seasons change. This occurrence takes place because the balance of our bodies has been broken due to huge daily temperature range, dry air and fine dust. Therefore, you should pay more attention to health care during the change of seasons.
The colder the weather becomes, the easier it is to live with the windows closed to avoid the cold. In an enclosed space, contaminated air with viruses, fine dust and carbon dioxide cannot be carried out and float indoors. In fact, studies conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency showed that indoor air pollution levels are more than 100 times that of outdoor. Just by ventilating the air, you can remove harmful substances from the air. Ventilation should be done three or four times a day before 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., when air pollution is low, and all doors inside should be opened to allow natural air to seep through the house. Especially, kitchen with a lot of gas needs to be ventilated with kitchen hoods because of the high concentration of volatile organic compounds or formaldehyde.
After the fall, the length of the day becomes so short that it gets dark easily. Serotonin produced during the day turns into melatonin that induces sleep at night. Thus, when sunlight is reduced, serotonin's secretion is also reduced. When melatonin is reduced, the biorhythm is likely to break, reducing immunity.
Sunlight not only has the effect of inducing the release of serotonin, the source of melatonin, but also prevents heart disease and boosts immunity by producing vitamin D. It is better to enjoy the sun for at least 30 minutes a day, especially the autumn sun, which is called nature's best medicine. However, sunscreen is essential.
In autumn, when humidity is low, mucous membranes that form the inner walls of airways in the respiratory tract are likely to dry up. The mucous membrane serves to block foreign substances from outside through sticky mucous materials, and if mucous membrane's moisture content is reduced, virus penetration can be facilitated and developed into pneumonia or bronchitis. In the fall, the optimum humidity in the room is around 50 to 60 percent, and you can control indoor humidity by using humidifiers or by using natural plants such as corn plants and rosehub. It is also important to maintain the moisture content of the body as well as the outside, so it is better to drink one to two cups of water more than usual. Water helps circulating body fluids and boosts immunity.
Diseases that develop during the change of seasons, from colds and body acorbia to atopic dermatitis, vary in their causes and accurate diagnosis and prescription of those diseases are hard to make. Therefore, it is best to prevent diseases by developing basic human body immunity system through balanced meals and moderate exercise. If you eat health-functioning foods that are specialized for immunity together, it would be more effective in increasing body resistance.
